Daily Qigong Tip
Changing How You Feel

Our wealth of feelings make us unique as beings.  While physical sensations are fairly straight forward, emotional feelings can be very complex and can be based on many factors. These feelings are not always rational, either.

In past issues of our newsletter, we have discussed emotions and how to specifically handle our different moods.  Today I would like to talk in general, about how we can  better be in charge of our feelings - both physically and emotionally - throughout the day.

Concept One: We are vibrations. People and things around us are vibrations. Everything vibrates, including a rock lying on the side of the road.  The world we live in is a constant symphony of vibrations. There are scientific principles of Chemistry and Physics which validate this concept, but we will leave that discussion for another day.

Concept Two: We are both vibration emitters and receivers. We are emitting and receiving vibrations every single second. The interaction between us and the environment is done through our consciousness level, our intention, our thoughts, our words, our body posture and our energy conditions. etc.

Concept Three: Feelings depend upon which vibration or range of vibrations you are engaging with at the moment.  For example, if you are listening to music with a nice soothing tone, you will feel relaxed and peaceful, indicating you are allowing yourself to be primarily a receiver of vibrations as you engage yourself with the soothing vibration of the music. In this case, you might be doing this subconsciously.

Notice the words “engage yourself with” which are underlined above. Consciously choosing to experience better vibrations by engaging yourself with them - and then being able to make it happen is the art behind changing how you feel at any moment.

So, can you do that? Can you consciously choose to engage with better vibrations and be able to make it happen?

Yes. Anybody can, even if you do not accept the concepts presented above.  And of course, through practice, it will become easier and easier for you.

Here is how:

1. Try to choose anything that makes you feel happy and pleasant.  If you don’t have something in mind, I suggest using the light of the sun (a better vibration over almost all the others).

2. The key to making the engagement happen is to FEEL IT, FEEL the warmth of the sunshine, FEEL the brightness of the sunshine, FEEL the pureness of the sunshine.  Please note that you need to feel, not think. Once you experience (are engaged with) the vibration of the sunshine, bothersome feelings will be overwritten.  FEEL the sunshine as long as you need or as long as you wish.

Be aware that this is different from Positive Thinking. You basically Do Not Think. You feel. In this process, the dynamic of energy (Qi) inside of your body changes for better.

Qigong trains people how to feel beyond the physical level and how to engage with a higher vibrational source which helps us regulate our energy condition.  For experienced Qigong practitioners, this should then be an easier job.

I use this simple art myself constantly. I have been able to ease uncomfortable feelings in my stomach within moments, to stop leg cramping in less than a minute, to get rid of tiredness and to turn an upset feeling into a cheerful and light state of being in minutes, and to stop a cold from blooming in a few hours.

So start.  When you are reading this it is only information. When you are putting this information  into practice, you are experiencing your own wisdom.

Questions are always welcome.

Chapter Fourteen
PROBLEMS ARE OPPORTUNITIES
Treat Them Like Visiting Relatives

We all have problems.  What would life be without them?  "Oh, Great!" you say. Are you sure?  Would you be the person you are today without hurdles you have faced in your life?

As much as I would like a problem-free life, I have slowly recognized that the purpose of my life is to mature, grow and be of service. Without problems I will grow little. Hanging on to a problem unnecessarily is neither fun nor productive.  How, then, do we avoid prolonging problems and how best can we utilize the difficulties in our lives?

I like to treat problems like visiting friends or relatives. The more I resent a problem, the more uncomfortable it becomes. So I work to accept problems as they surface, to acknowledge that the unpleasant issue of the moment has arrived to help me grow.

Not-so-close friends show up unannounced the weekend you were planning a family camp out. You debate between being flexible or bluntly honest.  You decide to delay your camping trip a day and give your full attention to your friends with the understanding they are on their own for the rest of the weekend. Maybe you give them a key to your home Saturday noon as you leave.  Maybe you tell them of a nice bed and breakfast a short drive away.  Either way you have solved your problem with a minimum of stress by giving the problem the space it requires without surrendering your world to it.

If a problem pops up with a business associate, give it some space.  Leave the problem at work so it will not affect the evening with your family.  The next day take a look at the problem from a new perspective. You may see the issue in a better light.  You may see a solution which did not occur to you the day before.

Give your problems respect, attention, the space they require and refrain from feeding them by hanging on to them. When you have learned what a problem has to teach you, it will leave your life and you will Be Happy!
